July & August Recap

LA Crude Women vs St. Albert

Hello Crude Friends & Family!

It’s hard to believe that the rugby season is coming to an end here shortly! It was a great summer filled with amazing rugby, breakout players and incredible support from all. We want to say thank you to all the players for giving it their all out on the pitch, the volunteers who helped run things all summer long, and to the fans for their continued support!

The men’s team continued to build throughout the season, getting strong win’s in July against the Exiles and Pirates. With a close game against the LT’s in the beginning of August, the Crude men came out on top. With the help of some guest players, the men saw the results they wanted on the score sheet. A tough loss to St. Albert at the end of the season had the men finish 5-1-4, seeded 3rd in the ERU men’s division. With the playoffs around the corner, the men look to prep for semi-finals, against the 2nd seeded LT’s for what we are sure will be a headbanger! Thanks to Coach Griko for all of the time and effort he has put into this men's team. Best of luck in playoffs!

The women’s team continued their winning streak in July, beating the Druids 79-5. Travelling to GP, the women knew it would be a tough game, but came out on top, staying undefeated. Coming into August, there were some tough games slotted against the Clan, Rockers & St. Albert, but the women continued to play their game and finished the season at 11-0, undefeated in league play. This is all thanks to Coach Cory, for the tireless hours he has put in to developing the team, setting up new systems and always believing in the team. The women have a bye, straight to city finals on Sept. 14, hope to see everyone out to support the Crude Women!

The U16 & U18 season kicked off in July with some incredible athletes joining this season! The U16 & U18 boys joined with Clan to create 2 incredible combo teams. The U16 boys finished 4th in the pool play, ultimately losing to Druids in the semi-final. The U18 boys finished 2nd in pool play, but lost to St. Albert in a hard fought semi-final at home. Congrats to all the boys for an incredible season!

The U16 & U18 girls, each joined with multiple different clubs to create 2 ERU combo teams. The U16 girls ended up finishing 3rd in pool play, beat St. Albert in the semi-final to advance to city finals vs Druids Red. The girls put on an amazing show and ended up winning the City Championship for U16, which has never been done by a combo team before! The U16 girls went to provincials, but ultimately lost to the strong Irish team. Congrats to all the U16 girls! The U18 girls finished 4th in pool play and played Druids Red in semi-finals, where an incredible game was played, but ultimately lost, but these girls left it all out on the pitch! We look forward to an amazing fall season for all of our junior athletes.

Thanks again for all the support and we look forward to seeing everyone in the post season and fall junior season! Viva la Crude!
