Presidents Message 2016

Presidents Message:

I am truly honored to be elected the president of the LA Crude sports club for the 2016 rugby season and onward. This being our 36th year in existance I must give praise to our outgoing president(s) Adam Bolton and the others before him, for all their hard work and dedication to the LA Crude RFC. I welcome all our current/past members, families, guests, officials, sponsors, and the visiting teams to the LA Crude for what we are hoping will be a successful season on and off the rugby pitch. It is exciting times in and around Leduc rugby with the completion of the Pat Wilson clubhouse renovations, the transformation of the immaculate Harry Sanders rugby field, and with such events as the super bowl road hockey tournament, registration night, rugby fest, hosting Alberta summer games, 2nd annual golf tournament, family day, silent auction night, the epic hot tub party, and many others planned it is sure to be a memorable 2016 season.

The LA Crude second division men will return to try and retain the ERU city championship, while looking to make another run at the ARU provincial title. With a lot of the core players returning including, Joe Cockram, Luke Baker, Dylan Pretty, Alistair McBride, and some new fresh faces the Crude will be looking to play a exciting brand of hard hitting, high scoring rugby with a great social atmosphere in a welcoming environment.

The mighty third division men will be looking to continue the growth and expansion of the player base while increasing skill level as they prepare to make a return to the playoff scene in the ever so tough ERU 3rd division. I will be looking to the “Black Aces” as well as younger members (Keegan Edwards, Marcus Beyer, Teddy Carr) to ensure the thirds have fun and continue to grow the sport we all love, RUGBY. With a higher focus on getting our junior program back going in the club through mini camps, junior high and senior high rugby in and around the Leduc area while recruiting locals with a drive and want to play rugby.

Speaking of strong programs, it appears as if the Crudettes will once again be joining forces with the Nor’ Westers women to form Crudewest. A great program that has seen considerable improvements in the last couple years. From barely being able to field a squad to where they are now, contesting very well in the ERU women’s first division. Crudewest will be expanding to add a development squad for this upcoming season. Look for Mel Hofstetter, Jaclyn Leblanc, Georgia Dunn, and Keryl Billens to lead another successful year, best of luck ladies.

Finally I want to thank the executive committee (Men’s VP: Luke Baker, Women’s VP: Mel Hofstetter, Junior VP: Suzie Zimmerman, Treasurer: Matt Beach, Social: Rob Ryby, Bingo: Marcus Beyer), the city of Leduc and council members, Edmonton rugby union, and all of our sponsors. I look forward to representing and working with all of you for this upcoming season.
